Deadlock’s Solomon reloads using positions from famous chess games
Valve has added Solomon, a chess-playing hero, to Deadlock, its upcoming game set in an alternate version of mid-century New York.
The game’s story centers on rival gods seeking control of the city, with heroes siding with them in hopes of having their wishes granted.
Solomon can summon giant chess pieces and direct them across the battlefield.
When he reloads, the pieces on his board shift into positions based on real chess games.
The arrangements include the 1851 “Immortal Game” and a game in which IBM’s Deep Blue defeated Garry Kasparov in 1996.
The details have drawn attention from players and added to interest in the game’s characters.
Deadlock is still in beta, and the available information does not say when it will be released.
Solomon, a new hero in Valve’s game Deadlock, has reload animations based on positions from historical chess games.
After reloading, the pieces on his board rearrange according to his remaining ammunition.
The positions reference famous matches, including the 1851 “immortal game” and a match involving the Deep Blue computer.
