Nooijen and Söderqvist win Eneco Tour opening time trial
The Eneco Tour began with a short time trial in Zuiderpark, The Hague, over a 3.1-kilometre course.
Dutch road champion Lieke Nooijen won the women’s race, finishing eight seconds ahead of Charlotte Kool.
In the men’s race, Jakob Söderqvist beat Wessel Mouris by 0.75 seconds to take the win.
Mouris had led for much of the event and came close to earning his first professional victory.
The tour has added a women’s race, with women and men riding the same roads over the next five days.
The next stage is a mostly flat ride starting and finishing in Ede, followed on Thursday by a 13.6-kilometre time trial in Tilburg.
Lieke Nooijen won the women’s 3.1-kilometre prologue of the Eneco Tour in The Hague.
Jakob Söderqvist won the men’s prologue, finishing 0.75 seconds ahead of Wessel Mouris.
Nooijen finished eight seconds ahead of Charlotte Kool, who placed second among the women.
Christophe Laporte, last year’s overall winner, finished third among the men, nearly 1.5 seconds behind Söderqvist.
The women and men rode the same course in three alternating start groups.
