Ukraine faces $128.86 billion in IMF and World Bank repayments and interest

Ukraine is expected to pay the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank $27.94 billion in interest on its debt through 2061.

Calculations based on data from Ukraine’s Finance Ministry put the principal it owes these institutions at $100.92 billion.

Together, principal and interest amount to $128.86 billion.

The figures cover payments to the two international lenders, not all of Ukraine’s public debt.

Ukraine’s total state and state-guaranteed debt stood at 9.603 trillion hryvnias, or $215.55 billion, on August 31.

The country’s population is estimated at between 22 million and 25 million, so the debt per person varies depending on which estimate is used.

The amounts owed could rise and repayment deadlines could be pushed back as Ukraine continues to borrow.
