Guangdong sets 2028 targets for robots, smart factories and AI
Guangdong has set ambitious manufacturing targets for 2028 as it seeks to strengthen its position as a global industrial powerhouse.
The Chinese province aims to produce more than 80,000 humanoid robots a year.
It also plans to build over 1,000 smart factories and 1,000 green factories within two years.
Green factories will be assessed on energy efficiency, resource use and environmental performance.
More than half of eligible manufacturers are to adopt AI within two years; eligibility is based on annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan.
The targets come as concerns over domestic demand and export barriers challenge the sector.
