China prosecutors open 434 cases to protect Long March heritage

Chinese prosecutors have opened 434 cases under a campaign to protect heritage along the route of the Long March.

The campaign covers 15 provinces, regions and municipalities along the route.

Prosecutors have issued 326 recommendations and filed 10 lawsuits, helping protect 499 Long March heritage sites and 477 revolutionary memorial facilities.

The heritage includes former revolutionary sites, battle sites, slogans and individual graves of fallen soldiers.

Because these places are spread across a long route and different jurisdictions, prosecutors are pushing authorities to address protection problems across whole areas, not just at individual sites.

This year marks 90 years since the Red Army completed the Long March, and prosecutors say they will continue oversight and may take legal action when authorities fail to make needed improvements.
