Brazilian homebuilders rise after third-quarter updates and lower interest rates

Shares in Brazilian homebuilders MRV, Cury and Tenda rose on Friday after they released preliminary operating figures for the third quarter.

MRV reported cash generation of 456 million reais and a 29.6% increase in net sales to 3 billion reais.

Tenda said sales grew 4.4% to 1.29 billion reais, while Cury also reported growth in sales.

A strike at state-owned lender Caixa disrupted bank transfers and financing, weighing on some companies’ cash generation and operations.

Investors were also encouraged by falling long-term interest rates, which can support construction companies.

Rates fell amid market reactions to election polls and expectations about future control of public finances, though the candidate discussed had not presented concrete adjustment proposals.

Analysts said some effects of the strike could ease in the fourth quarter, but tighter lending criteria may continue to constrain prices and margins.
