Johnny Marr says news of Mani’s death shaped lyrics on new album

Johnny Marr said he was recording “Beyond The Rain” for his solo album when Noel Gallagher called with news that Gary “Mani” Mounfield had died.

Mani was best known as the bassist for the Stone Roses and later played with Primal Scream.

Marr said he and his band were shocked because they had known Mani for a long time.

They considered stopping the recording session but decided to continue.

Marr later changed a few lines while recording the song’s vocals, including one about the sun coming out.

He said he did not write the song about Mani, but the news gave it a more poignant meaning.

Marr’s album “The Age of Everything” was released on October 2.
