RimWorld moves to its own engine, with faster performance and saves intact

RimWorld is moving from Unity to Waylith, an engine built by its developer, Ludeon Studios.

The change is part of update 1.7, which the studio says keeps the game looking and playing the same.

Ludeon says performance improved by two to four times in its tests, including faster loading and gameplay.

Existing saves and most community mods still work with the new version, and saves can also be used again in version 1.6.

The update is available to test on Steam’s beta branch, though players have reported higher memory use.

Ludeon warns that computers more than 10 years old may not run version 1.7.

The studio says it is also working on another game using Waylith, but has not shared details.
