Audit says Indonesia's social data system was not the main basis for 2025 spending
Indonesia’s state auditor found that the national social and economic data system was not fully used as the main basis for government spending in 2025.
The finding concerns social assistance and welfare programs run by government agencies and state-owned companies.
The auditor said relying on other data could mean public aid does not reach the intended recipients.
It also found that some social assistance was approved or paid to people who did not meet the rules, including civil servants, online gamblers and people recorded as dead or not found.
The auditor estimated this led to Rp2.2 trillion in wasted public funds and Rp28.84 billion in excess payments.
It recommended that the finance minister and the minister coordinating community empowerment align rules on using the system to plan, deliver and review social policies.
Indonesia’s Audit Board found that the national social and economic data system was not fully used as the main source for government spending in 2025.
The board said this could put social assistance and welfare spending at risk of not reaching the intended recipients.
It recommended that Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara and Coordinating Minister Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar coordinate on rules for using the system.
The board also found that social assistance payments in 2025 did not meet recipient criteria, causing Rp2.2 trillion in state-finance waste and Rp28.84 billion in overpayments.
