Japanese brewer creates wobbly glass to encourage drinking water with beer

Yoho Brewing, a craft beer producer in Nagano Prefecture in central Japan, has put a new beer glass on sale.

The U-shaped glass has two sections for beer and water, and it tilts if their balance shifts.

The company hopes this will remind people to drink water while drinking beer and help prevent excessive alcohol use and dehydration.

Japan’s 2024 health guidelines encourage people to alternate between alcohol and water to slow intoxication.

Developer Kyoko Kitano came up with the idea after discussing how easy it is to forget water when drinking with friends.

The company made seven prototypes over about eight months to find a design that would not spill.
