Three men charged over alleged resale of Tsontso Moselakgomo’s smartwatch
Three men have appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court in South Africa over the alleged theft and resale of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo’s smartwatch.
Prosecutors say a second-hand goods shop operator, Kenneth Chibuzor, bought it for R900 without recording the details required by law.
They allege he sold it to Stephen Mahlakwane Sekhukhune, who registered it to his Gmail account after Moselakgomo’s profile information and settings had been erased.
Prosecutors say Sekhukhune then sold it to Danial Anthony Moat for R4,000, and Moat advertised it online before selling it to another person for the same amount.
That fourth person has not been charged because prosecutors say there is not enough evidence linking them to an offence.
The three men face charges including theft, money laundering or handling allegedly stolen property, while Chibuzor also faces charges under the Second-Hand Goods Act.
The case is due back on 19 October 2026 for Chibuzor’s bail application, and the court has ordered that his immigration status be checked.
These charges concern the watch and do not identify the men as accused in Moselakgomo’s murder case.
