Russian classes to begin at three public schools in Central African Republic

Russia and the Central African Republic have agreed to start Russian classes at three public schools.

The pilot is for students in sixth grade and above.

Russia has supplied 500 textbooks for teaching Russian as a foreign language.

Russian has been taught at private schools in the country since 2024, and it was added to the public school curriculum in October 2026.

Russian forces have operated in the country since 2017, and Russia supports President Faustin-Archange Touadéra.

The new classes add a public education link to the countries’ wider relationship.

Plans for further cooperation include creating a Russian-language department at the University of Bangui.
