New infrastructure projects bring jobs and businesses to remote areas

China is building major infrastructure networks, including power, water and computing networks, and the projects are bringing changes to remote areas.

In Ulanqab, a city in Inner Mongolia, more than 100 data center projects have been established as the national computing network expands west.

The projects have created opportunities for local people, including 23-year-old Chen Gang, who trained for a data center job and has since been promoted.

More than 20 computing companies arrived in Ulanqab this year.

In Letianxi town on the north bank of the Yangtze River, construction of a new Three Gorges waterway has helped bring in 188 businesses in four months, including 60 in September.

Residents and newcomers have opened a guesthouse and are developing a riverside café, as the infrastructure work continues to create opportunities in the area.
