GST Council proposes 2% tax deduction on specified scrap deals

The proposal would make registered businesses deduct 2% tax when buying certain scrap from other registered businesses.

When they buy the covered materials from unregistered sellers, they would have to pay GST themselves.

The rules cover materials such as plastic waste, used tyres and electronic scrap.

The aim is to track taxes across more parts of the recycling chain.
