Hyundai nears 10 million cumulative vehicle sales in India

Hyundai began selling cars in India in 1998, starting with the Santro.

By the end of the third quarter of 2026, it had sold 9,884,960 vehicles there and expects to pass 10 million by year-end.

Its growth has been supported by models designed for local buyers, especially SUVs such as the Creta and Exter.

SUVs made up nearly 70% of Hyundai's India sales last year and 67% of sales through the first three quarters of this year.

Hyundai now has production capacity for 1 million vehicles a year at its Chennai and Pune plants.

It plans to raise capacity to more than 1.1 million a year by 2030, increase the share of locally sourced parts, and expand exports from India.

The company also plans to launch a new version of its Bayon small SUV in India this year.
