Alberta separatists gain influence inside governing UCP
Some members of Alberta’s governing party want the province to leave Canada.
They cheered for independence at a party meeting and booed Premier Danielle Smith when she backed staying in Canada.
Smith later called a separation referendum, even though polling shows independence is unpopular with most Albertans.
The movement has divided the party, and some separatists are now trying to remove Smith from office.
