Turkey raises penalties for shared e-scooter companies

A new regulation in Turkey has taken effect, raising penalties for companies that operate electric scooters, especially shared fleets.

It was prepared jointly by the transport, environment and interior ministries and published in the Official Gazette.

Companies can be fined 86,900 lira for operating without required permits, 8,687 lira for general service breaches and 43,447 lira for failures involving their apps or customer service.

Firms that withhold information or documents during inspections can be fined 50,000 lira.

Companies that exceed local scooter limits face rising penalties: 8,687 lira for a first breach, 86,900 lira for a second, and 170,000 lira plus a six-month suspension of their authorized activities for a third.

Each breach can be fined separately, and penalties linked to scooters can be applied to each scooter involved.
