Community-led initiative to address drug abuse launched in 300 Jind villages
A community-led initiative called the Panchgama Vikas Model has been launched in 300 villages in Jind district, Haryana.
It aims to address drug abuse while helping young people find information about education, careers and skills training.
Drug abuse is a concern in Haryana, and some villages have held community vigils to catch suspected users and sellers.
The initiative divides the villages into 60 groups, each with a lead and a five-member team to identify needs and guide young people.
Volunteers will contribute time, money and skills rather than offer jobs or financial incentives.
The plan also includes improving libraries with books, computers and internet access, and using them for career guidance and expert talks.
If the model becomes established in Jind, its organisers say it could be extended to other parts of Haryana.
