Kenyan patient suspected of Ebola tests negative in preliminary results

Preliminary laboratory tests for a 20-year-old man suspected of Ebola in Kenya came back negative.

He is being treated in Wajir County after travelling from the Democratic Republic of the Congo through Uganda.

The result eases concern that Kenya had recorded a second case.

Earlier this week, a Kenyan citizen who had travelled from the DRC died in Nairobi after contracting Ebola.

That case was Kenya’s first linked to the outbreak in eastern DRC, which has reported more than 8,000 cases.

The death also raised concerns about Kenya’s border screening, after the traveller passed through several airport temperature checks.

Officials are continuing to monitor the man, trace his contacts and strengthen checks for travellers entering Kenya.
