About 2.8 million rubles needed for 30,000 monthly deposit income

An economist estimates that about 2.78 million rubles in a bank deposit could produce around 30,000 rubles a month before tax.

The calculation uses an annual interest rate of 12.95%, based on the average maximum rate offered by the ten Russian banks with the most deposits in early September 2026.

It assumes the bank pays interest monthly and does not add it to the deposit.

The actual payments would depend on the bank’s terms and the number of days in each payment period.

Tax applies only to interest income above an exempt threshold, not to the deposit itself.

The economist estimates that, if the threshold is 160,000 rubles and there is no other interest income, 360,000 rubles in annual interest would leave an average of about 27,800 rubles a month after tax.

For people who do not need monthly payments, adding interest to the deposit can produce a higher return over a year.

The final tax-free threshold for 2026 will depend on the highest key rate recorded on the first day of each month that year.
