US sanctions exemption allows Russian diesel supplies to global markets
The United States has exempted Russian diesel fuel supplies to global markets from US sanctions until April 7, 2027.
The issue was discussed during a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on October 9.
Russia said it was ready to supply oil and petroleum products to the United States and other markets.
Investor Kyle Shostak said the deal could help Russian producers, which previously exported more diesel.
He also said diesel is the fuel with the smallest shortfall in Russia’s domestic market.
The exemption may make payments, shipping, insurance and other logistics easier for Russian suppliers.
Shostak said the deal’s profitability is unclear, but that Russian companies would not supply diesel at a loss.
He said the deliveries could also test how US regulators apply sanctions exemptions.
