Sheinbaum announces 8.4 trillion pesos for four-year infrastructure plan

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced an 8.4 trillion-peso infrastructure plan at an event marking the 50th anniversary of the country’s Business Coordinating Council.

The plan covers the next four years and combines public funding with investment involving private businesses.

It includes projects in roads, passenger trains, energy, oil, water, ports and housing.

Housing and Pemex account for the largest listed allocations, at about 3 trillion pesos and 2 trillion pesos respectively.

The government says the plan is intended to support economic growth and make it easier for private companies to invest.

The announced total covers major planned projects, not all private investment the government hopes to attract through incentives and faster permits.

Sheinbaum said a single investment office aims to approve projects within 60 days and has already approved more than 20 significant projects.
