Brown nears Nets preseason debut as George joins Celtics lineup

Nets guard Mikel Brown Jr., the sixth pick in June’s draft, has been out since late September with a sprained left ankle.

After taking part in full practices and a five-on-five session, he is expected to make his preseason debut Wednesday against Miami, but will miss Monday’s game against Washington.

In Boston, Paul George played his first game for the Celtics in a preseason win over Philadelphia, scoring 13 points and recording five steals in 25 minutes.

George and Jayson Tatum said it was their first time playing on the same team after facing each other in practices.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said George’s defensive activity can encourage his teammates, giving the team a new element on defense.

Toronto’s rookie forward Allen Graves has also drawn notice in training camp for his improved outside shot and other skills, though a groin injury has limited him.

Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said Graves could help the team during the season and may get on the court soon.

It was great because we’ve been teammates for a few months now, but it was like my first time sharing the floor with him and being on the same team

He’s got great instincts, great technique, great positioning. It’s something he takes pride in, but I do think it’s very contagious.
