Josh Brolin says he sobbed after reading the Whalefall script

Whalefall is a survival thriller based on Daniel Kraus’s bestselling novel.

Josh Brolin says he sobbed after reading the script because its story affected him deeply.

He plays Mitt Gardiner, whose death leads his son Jay, played by Austin Abrams, to search for his remains off California’s central coast.

A massive sperm whale swallows Jay, leaving him trapped with only an hour of oxygen.

Jay must draw on lessons from his father to try to escape.

Brolin says his character remains an important presence throughout the film.

Whalefall is set to arrive exclusively in Indian cinemas on October 16, 2026.
