Sánchez puts housing at the centre of the PSOE’s election campaign
Pedro Sánchez has made housing a central issue as the PSOE begins campaigning for Spain’s November 29 election.
He spoke on Saturday in Dos Hermanas, a town in Seville province.
Sánchez referred to Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman who died in hospital after being evicted from her Madrid home.
He said a decree that pauses some evictions had been approved again by the government and is now in force.
The decree still needs approval from Congress’s standing delegation, after the election was called early.
Sánchez said a future progressive government would maintain and strengthen housing protections for tenants and small property owners.
The issue matters because Sánchez is presenting access to housing as a major social cause in the election campaign.
