Nearly 60% of Spaniards see Feijóo as the next prime minister
A poll in Spain found that 59.9% of people think Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the conservative People’s Party, will be the next prime minister.
That is up from 55.8% a week earlier.
The poll says 27.6% expect current Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to remain in office.
Feijóo also received the highest rating among the political leaders surveyed, with 3.9 points; Sánchez, Santiago Abascal and Yolanda Díaz each received 3.2.
The poll found that 29.3% would like Feijóo to become prime minister, compared with 25.6% who want Sánchez to stay.
These figures describe public opinion, not an election result, and the poll says the People’s Party’s voting support has remained stagnant.
The poll also asked who should lead the new left-wing grouping known as the Broad Front: 16% chose minister Pablo Bustinduy, 14.9% chose minister Mónica García and 12.5% chose former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau.
