IMF warns Latin America to watch inflation as growth slows

The IMF's chief economist urged Latin America and the Caribbean to watch inflation as the region faces higher prices.

The IMF forecasts inflation of 4.2% this year and 4.1% next year.

It expects the region's economy to grow 2.3% in 2026 and 2.5% in 2027, with the 2026 estimate slightly lower than its July forecast.

The crisis in oil markets linked to the Middle East war is expected to affect countries unevenly, depending on their exposure to commodities.

Tenreyro said policymakers should prevent higher energy and raw-material costs from causing further price increases.

Brazil's 2026 growth forecast was cut to 2.2%, while the IMF expects global growth of 3.1% that year.
