Azerbaijan approves air transport agreement with Mongolia

Azerbaijan approved an air transport agreement with Mongolia, after President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree ratifying it.

The agreement was signed in Leipzig on May 6, 2026, and had already been considered by Azerbaijan’s parliament.

It creates a legal basis for direct flights between the two countries, which previously relied on routes through third countries, often Istanbul or Moscow.

The agreement lists nine possible routes connecting Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Gabala and Zagatala with Ulaanbaatar, Khovd and Choibalsan.

Azerbaijan’s transport minister said the deal could support cooperation between airlines and strengthen economic and cultural ties.

The agreement makes direct air links possible, but no flight launch dates are given.
