Actor Francis Renaud held in custody over rape, harassment and violence allegations

French actor and director Francis Renaud was placed in police custody on Monday over allegations of rape, harassment and violence.

The case follows a complaint by his former partner, who says she was forced to have sex with other men in his presence over about 12 years.

Some alleged incidents took place in Vernon, in the Eure department, where Renaud lives, and elsewhere in France.

A specialist police unit in Rouen is investigating under the direction of the prosecutor in Évreux.

Renaud, 59, has appeared in films by director Olivier Marchal and in television series.

The allegations are under investigation, and the reports do not state that he has been charged or convicted.

The investigation is continuing, with the prosecutor declining to comment further at this stage.
