Teen with relapsed lymphoma returns home after trial treatment
Ethan Griffiths, a 14-year-old from Maesteg in Wales, was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a fast-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, in January.
Chemotherapy left him cancer-free in May, but the cancer returned aggressively soon after he came home from hospital.
His father, Lloyd, who has also had cancer, advised him to detach himself from the illness to cope.
Ethan joined a UK-wide clinical trial at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for patients whose B-cell lymphoma had not responded to treatment or had returned.
The trial tests two new drugs and offered a 50% chance of success.
Ethan came home cancer-free again in September, although no further treatment plans are described.
