Chuck Lorre Says Anna Faris’s Exit Confirmed His Earlier Doubts

Chuck Lorre revisits Anna Faris’s departure from Mom in his new memoir.

Faris played Christy Plunkett, a recovering alcoholic, opposite Allison Janney from 2013 until she left ahead of the show’s eighth season.

Lorre writes that he had initially doubted whether Faris was right for the role, but cast her after reflecting on his troubled working relationship with Charlie Sheen.

He later said her exit confirmed his earlier doubts, but did not explain what he meant by the reasons for her departure.

Faris has said the show’s intensity wore on her focus and that she had never before held a job for so long.

She described the period as complicated and said she remains hesitant to discuss her experience on the show in depth.

Mom was cancelled after eight seasons, and Faris said leaving allowed her to pursue new opportunities.
