Rosatom chief says Zaporozhye nuclear plant situation remains complex
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev says the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine remains complex.
He said talks are under way to establish ceasefires, with Rosatom, Russian officials and the International Atomic Energy Agency taking part.
Likhachev said attacks on vehicles and the road linking the plant to Energodar continue, but plant staff are maintaining their composure.
He also said electrical equipment at a nearby thermal power plant needs urgent repairs so it can transmit power to the nuclear plant.
According to Likhachev, repairs cannot safely proceed while the equipment is under fire.
A separate power line, Dneprovskaya, has been out of service since March, and he said Rosatom repaired its section while work on the other section is delayed.
He said the sides hope to agree on a temporary ceasefire and on restoring the line.
