First-year student found dead in IIIT Ranchi hostel room

Aditya, a first-year student from Bihar’s Purnia district, was found dead in his hostel room at the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Ranchi.

Hostel residents alerted the institute on Saturday night after finding his room locked from inside.

Police said preliminary findings suggested he was under examination pressure, with exams having started on October 8.

His body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

Students protested on campus and accused the institute authorities of failing to get him to a hospital in time.

One student alleged the ambulance had no driver and that the warden stopped students from giving Aditya CPR.

Police have not stated a final conclusion about the circumstances of his death.
