Hacking attempts on South Korea’s state-run banks and central bank exceed 1 million

South Korea’s state-run banks and the Bank of Korea recorded more than 1 million attempted hacks this year through September.

The figures cover the Export-Import Bank of Korea, Korea Development Bank, Industrial Bank of Korea and the Bank of Korea.

From 2020 through September 2026, the four institutions recorded 4,986,964 hacking attempts in total.

The figures were provided to a lawmaker on the National Assembly’s Finance and Economy Committee.

They show that attempts have continued over several years and exceeded 1 million in 2026 alone.

The figures cover attempted attacks, not confirmed successful breaches.

No further action or response is described.
