Canadian cybersecurity negotiator arrested in ShinyHunters investigation

Edward Dubrovsky, a Canadian cybersecurity executive associated with ransomware negotiation firms, was arrested in Pennsylvania.

US court records accuse him of conspiring to threaten the confidentiality of information to extort money and of interfering with commerce through threats.

The records spell his surname in different ways, and some case documents are sealed.

The arrest is linked to the FBI’s investigation of ShinyHunters, a hacking group that recently said it stole information about nearly every FBI employee.

The group is known for using phishing and stolen credentials to take data from software companies.

Dubrovsky has not publicly responded, and the available court records say he did not yet have a lawyer appointed.

The case was moved from Pennsylvania to the Eastern District of Texas, where the investigation is now centered, according to one source.
