B.C. Conservatives drop candidate over offensive social media posts
The British Columbia Conservatives removed Joachim Agou as their candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill after offensive social media posts came to light.
Screenshots showed Agou saying a car that drove through a pro-Palestinian protest should have reversed over the demonstrators, and sharing a meme insulting Pakistan.
The party’s interim leader, Lorne Doerkson, said the posts were unacceptable and Agou would not join the party’s caucus if elected.
Agou later apologized and said he took responsibility for his words, while rejecting accusations of racism.
He said his comment about the protest was a reaction to blocked streets, but that this did not excuse it.
Agou said he would continue his election campaign without Conservative support.
