INEC clears 13 candidates for Nasarawa’s 2027 governorship election

Nigeria’s electoral commission, INEC, has cleared 13 candidates to run for governor of Nasarawa State in 2027.

They are seeking to succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is serving his final term.

The candidates represent 13 parties, including the APC, PDP, Labour Party, ADC and SDP.

Among the best-known are APC candidate Aliyu Wadada, a serving senator, and PDP candidate Emmanuel Ombugadu, a former federal lawmaker.

The field also includes former inspector-general of police Mohammed Adamu and retired army major-general Nuhu Angbazo.

Their different backgrounds give voters a range of public-service and political experience to consider, but appearing on the ballot does not show how much support any candidate has.

During the campaign, voters across Nasarawa’s 13 local government areas can assess candidates’ records and plans on issues such as security, jobs, education and healthcare.
