Antonelli says Verstappen would be a scary title rival after Singapore win

Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix, his second Formula 1 victory in eight days.

Kimi Antonelli finished third and said it would be “very scary” if Verstappen were competing with him for the championship.

Antonelli leads the standings, while Verstappen is 119 points behind with six races left.

Verstappen had gone 15 races without a win before his recent victories, as Red Bull worked to improve its performance under new engine regulations.

Last season, he made a strong late-season run, but there is less time for a similar comeback this year.

Antonelli could secure the title at the next race in Austin if he scores enough points ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen could still win more races and challenge for a high final placing, but the sources say he is too far back to make a title fight likely.
