Turkey reports lower insurance claims after action against abuse
Turkey’s insurance regulator says it has taken action against people who abused claims and arbitration processes.
The regulator’s president, Davut Menteş, said the practices had become widespread since 2019.
He said daily applications to the Insurance Arbitration Commission fell from about 3,000 to around 1,500 in October, after earlier measures and legal action.
The regulator also says a central claims hotline now sends accident reports to insurers, and a computer system assigns vehicle assessors.
It is tightening oversight of insurance companies, including their financial strength and compliance with rules.
New investors are assessed on their finances, reputation, connected risks and expected contribution to the sector, with information gathered from 15 institutions.
Menteş said the regulator would continue acting against abuse until it was eliminated.

He said operations took place in the final 10 days of September and that earlier measures also contributed to the decline.
