Fox opens Malaysia hub for international versions of ‘Extracted’

Fox Entertainment Global is opening a production hub in Malaysia for international versions of its survival competition show, ‘Extracted’.

The hub is in the wilderness of Lake Kenyir and has permanent sets and a headquarters.

Fox says local crews and tax incentives will help production teams make versions of the show there.

‘Extracted’ puts ordinary people alone in the wilderness without training or supplies, while their loved ones watch from a remote headquarters.

The loved ones can end a contestant’s run by pressing a button, which also ends the family’s chance at the prize.

Fox says the show drew 45 million viewers across its first two seasons and has been renewed for a third.

The new hub is intended to help the format expand internationally, and Fox executives are presenting it to buyers at MIPCOM in Cannes.
