China’s logistics activity expands for fifth straight month

China’s logistics activity index rose to 51.5% in September, up 0.6 percentage points from August.

The index has stayed in expansion territory for five consecutive months.

The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said measures including new orders, goods movement, equipment use and business expectations improved.

The figures point to stronger logistics demand, which officials said was supported by policies to encourage consumer spending and improve people’s livelihoods.

Some road transport companies surveyed said trunk-route freight volumes rose by about 3% from August during the busy consumption season.

Faster inventory turnover and higher equipment use also suggest that companies are coordinating supply and sales more efficiently.

Officials expect logistics activity to remain steady and make progress in the fourth quarter, with support from government and market investment, including construction of a national logistics network.
