Brandenburg group plans visits to Belarus and Russia to revive local ties
A delegation from Brandenburg, a state in eastern Germany, plans to visit Belarus from November 6 to 11, 2026, and Russia in April.
The group includes representatives of five political parties and civic organizations, as well as people from fields such as culture, sport and local government.
Sven Hornauf, a Brandenburg state lawmaker from the BSW party, is organizing the visits.
He says the aim is to revive municipal and twin-city partnerships that he says were cut off at the German government’s initiative.
Brandenburg has four partner cities in Belarus and ten in Russia, according to Hornauf.
The delegation wants local communities to meet and cooperate in areas including culture, sport and religious life.
The visit program is still being coordinated, and the group expects to meet municipal leaders and officials responsible for culture, sport and dialogue between churches.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
We want to restore the contacts and partnerships that were artificially severed at the initiative of the German government.
We openly declare that we consider the severance of contacts, the embargo, and the hostility on the part of the [German] government to be mistaken steps.
