China urges US to stop sending ‘wrong signals’ on Taiwan

China urged the US to stop sending what it called ‘wrong signals’ to Taiwan independence supporters.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the call at a regular briefing on October 13.

She was responding to a question about US statements on China’s countermeasures involving Paraguay and Belize.

The briefing did not detail those countermeasures.

China said the one-China principle is a basic rule of international relations and a shared international consensus.

Mao also described it as a political foundation of US-China relations.

She called on Washington to follow that principle and the three joint communiqués between the two countries.

She said the US should handle the Taiwan issue cautiously.
