Farmers stopped by police while heading to Delhi protest

Hundreds of farmers affiliated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) set out in tractors and trolleys for a protest in Delhi on Saturday, October 10.

The protest was called by the Cockroach Janta Party, and the farmers travelled after a call from BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait.

Police stopped them at Chapargarh village and the Yamuna Expressway toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh.

Farmers and police had heated exchanges and pushed one another.

The farmers then held a sit-in at the toll plaza and raised slogans against the police action.

The BKU said the sit-in would continue, and that it would decide what to do next based on Tikait’s directions.

What people are saying

Stopping farmers from going to Delhi is the murder of democracy. The government should have listened to them instead of stopping them.
