Former US Embassy site in Ankara has no confirmed new project
The former US Embassy site on Atatürk Boulevard in Ankara was sold in autumn 2024, after the embassy moved to a new building in Çukurambar.
The site covers about 23 acres across four plots, and its historic building is protected.
The buyer is a group led by businessman Şemsetdin Hancı, who said the sale price was confidential and described it as a serious amount.
Hancı said he bought the land for its value as a prime site, but no final project has been chosen.
The land is designated for embassy use in planning documents, so a change of use would require a planning process.
Hancı said he did not want a high-rise and ruled out housing, schools and hospitals as possible uses.
Because the site is on a symbolic stretch of Ankara and carries diplomatic history, decisions about its future could affect the city’s historic character and skyline.
The former US embassy site on Atatürk Boulevard in Ankara was sold to TY Gayrimenkul and the Aşhan group.
