Steelers place Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve with foot injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers are placing wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve because of a foot injury.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Pittman aggravated the injury during practice and is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Pittman has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, which caused him to miss the Steelers’ Week 2 game against the New England Patriots.

Pittsburgh acquired him from the Indianapolis Colts in a March trade and later signed him to a three-year, $59 million extension.

This season, he has caught seven passes for 89 yards on 12 targets.

His absence leaves the Steelers without a receiver as they prepare to play the Colts on Sunday.

The sources do not say when Pittman might return.
