China plans subsidized skills training for 50 million people during next five-year plan

China’s human resources ministry says it aims to provide 50 million subsidized vocational training places during the next five-year plan.

The plan was outlined at a government briefing on employment and social security.

Officials also aim for 40 million people to earn skills certificates, including 14 million at advanced-worker level or above.

Training will target needs in areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and care services for older people and children.

The government also plans to expand training facilities and build a nationwide online map of vocational training institutions.

These measures are part of a broader effort to support employment and build a more skilled workforce.

The ministry says it will promote training through employers and other organizations, with subsidies and awards helping encourage participation.

By 2030, it aims for skilled workers to make up 35% of employed people.
