Dawnwalker actor says AI cannot replicate an actor’s full performance
Will de Renzy-Martin, who plays Coen in the English-language version of The Blood of Dawnwalker, says acting involves more than the sound of a voice.
He argues that AI may reproduce vocal sounds but cannot replicate an actor’s personality, choices or work with a director.
The game’s developer, Rebel Wolves, said it used text-to-speech AI tools while planning cinematics, then hired actors to perform the roles.
The article says no content in the game was created with AI.
Other game developers have used AI to generate voice lines, raising debate about its role in acting.
De Renzy-Martin says actors can also help shape performances, and that this work may be more valuable than generating voice sounds.
The podcast episode featuring his comments is upcoming; no release date is given.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
The least interesting thing about what I do is the way my voice sounds.
That is really all that generative AI is able to replicate.
It's not replicating my personality and the things that I do when I'm in the room, and the choices that I make, which is all the reasons that a director or a producer would want to work with me.
De Renzy-Martin said actors are relatively inexpensive and suggested someone would be needed to elicit performances from AI-generated sounds.
