Ángel Víctor Torres will not run for Spain’s Congress

Ángel Víctor Torres, Spain’s minister for territorial policy and democratic memory, will not run for Congress in the November 29 general election.

He says his priority is helping the PSOE win the next Canary Islands regional election, where he is the party’s candidate for president.

Torres led the Canary Islands government from 2019 to 2023.

His party won the most votes in the last regional election, but other parties formed a majority and Fernando Clavijo became president.

Torres says he will support PSOE candidates running for Congress in Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

He has said he expects the PSOE to win the next regional election, which is due in 2027.
