Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to adapt symbiote story for seventh time
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will revisit the symbiote suit story in its upcoming second season on Disney+.
The story features a suit linked to the alien symbiote Venom, which corrupts Peter Parker and brings out his negative emotions.
Six earlier major Spider-Man adaptations have used this version of the story, including films, animated shows and a video game.
The first was Spider-Man: The Animated Series in 1995, followed by adaptations including Spider-Man 3 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The 1984 Secret Wars comic that introduced the suit did not show it changing Peter’s personality; it controlled his body while he slept.
The repeated retellings draw on the story’s popularity, and the new season will add another version, though its exact approach is not yet clear.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 is set to adapt the symbiote suit story, making it the seventh major Spider-Man adaptation to do so.
Early footage confirmed the upcoming season will feature the arc, in which the Venom symbiote turns Peter’s suit black and brings out negative emotions in him.
The six earlier adaptations appeared in television, film and video games between 1995 and 2023.
The story was introduced in the 1984 comic Secret Wars #8, but that version did not portray the suit as corrupting Peter’s personality.
Screen Rant says the story has been adapted repeatedly because of its popularity.
